Since our last visit to Uruguay (and Alejandro’s brief layover in Atlanta in the summer of 2018 when he stayed with us during an international conference,) we have the following to report:
Asado ministries’ donated enough funds for a new Peugot SUV will greatly enhance his evangelical ministry in the interior of Uruguay. Ale gets many invitations to speak, but without reliable transportation the 300-400 mile journey (one way) is impossible. The vehicle should be purchased by June, 2019.
Ale’s work with the T-Shirt and bag operation goes well. He received from Asado Ministries and from other donors in the summer of 2018 sufficient funds to purchase some very advanced machinery to speed up production to a degree that he can overwhelm his competition with a beautiful product. This side business is turning a nifty profit which will pay for the transportation costs of his travel.
Alejandro Las began his Christian ministry as a translator of Christian materials. Then he began to lead a group of people in his neighborhood to worship and study God’s Word. Support was never possible for him to become a full time pastor as his translation work (his only income) took up too much time. We found two donors who came forward and gave Alejandro sufficient financial support to allow him to quit the translation work and become a full time pastor, and to also rent a nice building to begin a church. Tom has visited Alejandro and his wife, Chris, no less than 20 times in the last 15 years, from the time before the translation took place and afterwards to watch Alejandro’s church grow. Once the church received a certain degree of maturity, Alejandro was able to reach out to other organizations for additional support. A wonderful thanks and appreciation goes to First Redeemer Church, Cumming, Georgia, for their help in various projects presented by Alejandro Las. The Faro de la Costa Church (Lighthouse Church) is a major player in the local Christian community of Montevideo.
